Invitation to an International Gathering on Indigenous Co-operatives

  • A day-long workshop focused on networking for Indigenous co-operatives, hosted by Arctic Co-operatives Ltd. and La Fédération des coopératives du Nouveau-Québec (FCNQ) will be held on July 7 in Baie-D'Urfé, PQ (1 hour west of Montreal).

  • The workshop will present models of co-operative federation from Arctic Co-ops and FCNQ. Participants will share their experience and will discuss Indigenous co-operatives and identify actions needed to support an effective global network.

  • This event contributes to the ICA CCR 2025 Global Research Conference, which celebrates the UN International Year of Co-operatives, 2025. This is an opportunity to highlight the achievements, common challenges, and the unique circumstances faced by Indigenous co-operatives.

  • Arctic Co-op, FCNQ and the CASC EDID Committee will provide a space for dialogue, bringing together researchers and practitioners. The workshop outcomes will be presented at a scheduled ICA CCR 2025 Global Research Conference roundtable. Indigenous co-operators have much to contribute in terms of leadership to achieve the objective of the ICA CCR 2025 Global Research Conference – “Intercooperation for our Common Futures in Creating transformative change for justice, sustainability and prosperity”.

Workshop Objectives

(1) To advance decolonization and reconciliation with Indigenous communities.

(2) To increase CASC member awareness of persistent attitudes and policies that may exclude some communities.

(3) To provide an opportunity for sharing experience and identifying actions toward establishing a network of Indigenous co-operatives.

(4) To highlight the importance of co-operative and networking spaces.
